1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the TagIn website, mobile and progressive web applications, related services, and communications collectively referred to as the Service. In this policy, “TagIn,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of TagIn.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy. Where consent is required by law, we will request it in an appropriate form.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information: name, username, email address, location information, password credentials, date of birth, and account settings.
  • Profile information: photos, biography, interests, preferences, gender or identity information you choose to provide, and what you are looking for on TagIn.
  • Content and activity: posts or Shouts, comments, likes, event and group activity, saved plans, invitations, reports, messages, matches, and other interactions.
  • Support information: information you send when contacting support, reporting a user, appealing a decision, or providing feedback.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and log information: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, timestamps, referring pages, error logs, and security events.
  • Usage information: screens viewed, features used, links selected, searches, interaction patterns, and approximate session duration.
  • Location information: precise or approximate location when you authorize it, along with location inferred from an IP address or selected city.

Information from others

We may receive information from other users, service providers, identity or fraud-prevention tools, and third-party sign-in services that you choose to connect.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • create, authenticate, maintain, and secure accounts;
  • display profiles and content according to your visibility settings;
  • show nearby events, groups, plans, people, and local conversations;
  • provide matching, recommendation, search, messaging, notification, and moderation features;
  • personalize the Service using location, interests, preferences, and prior activity;
  • operate, troubleshoot, analyze, test, and improve the Service;
  • detect spam, fraud, abuse, harassment, unsafe conduct, and violations of our Terms;
  • respond to requests, complaints, legal obligations, and emergencies;
  • send transactional messages and, where permitted, promotional communications;
  • enforce our agreements and protect TagIn, our users, and the public.

4. Location information

TagIn is designed around nearby discovery. If you grant location permission, we may process precise device location to rank and display relevant events, users, groups, and plans. You can disable device-level location permission, but some nearby features may become less accurate or unavailable.

We generally display distance or an approximate area rather than your exact coordinates. You should still avoid posting home addresses, real-time travel details, or other sensitive location information publicly.

5. How information is shared

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With other users: profile details, photos, content, approximate distance, event attendance, group membership, mutual interests, and activity according to the feature and your settings.
  • With service providers: hosting, storage, email delivery, security, analytics, mapping, content moderation, customer support, and other vendors acting on our behalf.
  • For legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, investigate abuse, protect rights or safety, or prevent serious harm.
  • During a business transaction: as part of a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.
  • With your direction or consent: when you ask us to share information or clearly agree to the sharing.

We do not sell personal information for money.

6. Public content and interactions

Some TagIn features are public or visible to broad groups of users. Content shared to the City Feed, public events, public groups, comments, or other public areas may be viewed, copied, photographed, or redistributed by others. Use privacy controls carefully and only publish information you are comfortable sharing with the intended audience.

Messages and restricted profile information may still be disclosed to recipients, moderators, or safety personnel where necessary to provide the feature, investigate a report, or protect users.

7. Email, push, and other communications

We may send service communications such as verification messages, password resets, security alerts, event updates, invitations, match or message notifications, and changes to our policies. These messages are necessary to operate the Service and may not always be optional.

Promotional electronic messages will be sent in accordance with applicable law. Where required, we will obtain consent, identify the sender, and provide a working unsubscribe mechanism. You can also manage eligible notification categories through your account settings.

8. Cookies, local storage, and analytics

We may use cookies, local storage, session identifiers, pixels, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, protect accounts, measure performance, understand feature usage, and improve the Service. Browser settings may allow you to block some technologies, but doing so can affect functionality.

If we introduce third-party advertising or materially expand tracking, we will update this policy and any consent controls as required.

9. Retention and deletion

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing the Service, maintaining security, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and meeting legal obligations.

When an account is deleted, information may remain for a limited period in backups, security logs, fraud-prevention records, legal files, or content retained for legitimate safety and compliance reasons. Content shared with others may remain in their messages, screenshots, exports, or records.

10. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information under our control. These may include access restrictions, password hashing, encrypted transport, logging, backups, monitoring, and software maintenance.

No system is completely secure. You are responsible for using a strong, unique password, protecting your devices, and promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized access.

11. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may request access to personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis for processing, or request deletion of your account and eligible information.

You can update much of your information directly through TagIn. We may need to verify your identity before completing a privacy request, and lawful exceptions may apply. Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to provide features that depend on the affected information.

To submit a privacy request, email support@tagin.ca with enough detail for us to understand and verify the request.

12. Processing outside Canada

TagIn or its service providers may process or store information in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions. Information processed elsewhere may be subject to the laws and lawful access regimes of those jurisdictions. We remain responsible for personal information transferred to service providers acting on our behalf and use contractual or other safeguards where appropriate.

13. Age requirement

TagIn is intended only for people who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly permit children under 18 to create accounts. If we learn that an underage person has provided personal information, we may suspend the account and take reasonable steps to delete the information.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as TagIn evolves. We will post the revised version with a new “Last updated” date and provide additional notice when a change is material or when required by law. Continued use after the effective date means the revised policy applies to future use, subject to any consent requirements.
